In Thanks

behind the scenes 264

Days and weeks are flying by! I have been devoting my time to several different projects, volunteering at my son’s school, and nurturing relationships. I’m going to take tomorrow and Friday to let my to do lists go, and practice gratitude for the good that is.

Next week will be full of preparations for a holiday sale in Quincy, Illinois that will take place on December 6. I’m looking forward to spending time with very dear friends and am grateful for the opportunity to participate in the event. The weekend after that will bring another art and craft sale in Jefferson City, Missouri, and I’m looking forward to that one as well. Let me know if you’re in either of those areas and I’ll give you the details!

I also hope to collect more stories for my newest venture: #WithMyClothesOn. You can learn more about that at:

Follow me on instagram ( to see how the sale preparations progress!

I’m not necessarily proud of this, but I read People Magazine online from time to time – okay, I check it every morning. Yesterday, I learned that Kim Kardashian plans to “break the internet” with a picture of her bottom, and I’m angry about it.

I’m angry because I’m tired of women showing their breasts and buttocks under the guise of female empowerment.

I’m angry for women who work very hard and are not compensated for their work in either payment or respect. I’m angry that celebrities and the politically powerful influence our culture and society when there are intelligent and experienced citizens from all walks of life with their own observations, ideas, and skills that are worth learning about.

Despite the anger, I want to do something positive and uplifting, and I need your help.

Let’s document ourselves as women taking action for good within our spheres of influence. Take a picture of yourself doing what you do – raising children, caring for a friend, giving a speech, volunteering, supporting someone, doing your job well, being creative – and use #WithMyClothesOn when you post it online. You’re invited to share a link of your post in the comment section – I’d love to see what you do with your clothes on!

I want to keep this separate from my work as The Free Range Artisan, so I’m starting another blog in which I will provide a platform to share stories about women who make our world better in unique and meaningful ways. You can contact me at I’ll read your submissions as they come and will begin posting as soon as possible.

Let’s look beyond appearance and sexuality and honor meaningful action…

“… for the growing good of the world is partly dependent on unhistoric acts; and that things are not so ill with you and me as they might have been, is half owing to the number who lived faithfully a hidden life, and rest in unvisited tombs.”

– George Eliot’s Middlemarch

Let’s break the internet with our clothes on!

Moving Beyond the Anger to Embrace the Good,

Fall Tree Practice

behind the scenes 259

A colorful tree on a colorful lap!

I’m on break from a Creative Live class on how to use Instagram and just finished playing with color and shapes inspired by a fall tree I saw in a parking lot a few weeks ago. The picture of the actual tree is on my Instagram account:

I would share it with you directly, but I’m not sure how to download pictures from my phone to my computer (you can see why I need the class – and probably need several more), but it is a lovely tree and worth seeing.

It’s almost time to pick my chickadee up from school – it might be fun for both of us to create more colorful trees and experiment with different ways to shape the leaves. Perhaps we’ll make a forest! Of course, I have a very active son, so we may need to play dodge ball first. 🙂

Feel free to share images of the colorful trees in your world (real and imagined)! I would love to see them.behind the scenes 256
